Open Question: Is English considered to be a Romantic or a Germanic language?

A lot of people said that English is actually not a Romantic language because it's not inherited from Latin, and they said that English is actually a Germanic language. However, I though English is a Romantic language because a lot of English root (ex: prefixes and suffixes) are similar to Latin and Great Britain (the origin of English, I guess...) is actually close to Spain, France, Italy, etc. (Romantic languages speaking country) and it's also close to ancient Roman Empire. While Germanic language speaking countries are kinda far away from ancient Rome (ex: all those countries in the Eastern Europe). So is English considered to be Romantic or Germanic?... Read More »
