Open Question: Backpack through Europe or us road trip?(for senior trip)?

My friends and I are trying to get an early start to plan our senior trip so we'll have enough money. It'll be about 4(+or-) girls all around 18 I'm wondering what other people think we should do. I've been on a road trip before and it was amazing but I'd like to see other countries/ new cultures. But the whole language barrier/kidnapping movies turn me off of Europe I feel like they'd both be around the same pricing but let me know if im wrong Road trip From jersey to California most likely ..
